The Nissan group is revising its participation in the project for a general factory in Morocco with its French ally Renault, due to the world economic crisis, according to sources reported today by the AFP. "We are considering certain postponements and resizings of our projects, including that in Morocco", a spokesperson for the Japanese company said, adding however that "nothing is yet confirmed."
The Spanish newspaper El Pais similarly announced today that Nissan plans to withdraw from the project, which was announced in 2007. The decision, according to the newspaper, which quotes "well-informed sources", is thought to have been made on Monday by the management of the Japanese group.
